Bio

Dr. Slaughter began his postgraduate work as a high school teacher in Polk County in 1990. He taught a variety of natural science classes, as well as team teaching with FUSE/EMH classes (Emotionally Handicapped and Educationally Mentally Handicapped students). Later, wanting to pursue a different kind of challenging career, he re-enrolled back into USF. He worked in the Department of Neuroscience and the Institute of Biomolecular Science, as well as pursuing a post-baccalaureate degree in Biology. His undergraduate research, at the time, involved studies into the physiological and pharmacological effects of caffeine as well as proprietary compounds involving both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Putting together his enjoyment of biology, working in laboratories, education and helping people directly, Dr. Slaughter opened Mulberry Pharmacy’s Compounding department after graduating with his pharmacy degree from Mercer University. Starting with simple non-sterile compounds, he has developed Mulberry Pharmacy’s compounding lab to be able accommodate both sterile and non-sterile compounds, placing it as one of the only sterile labs available to fill specialty compounds for the residents of Polk County. He has currently been involved in formulating unique medications for both animal and human patients, and has recently entered a patent along with a local physician, on a novel approach to wound care.
