Mulberry Pharmacy: A pharmacy with history – and heart

Mulberry Pharmacy has been serving the people of Mulberry and surrounding communities since the early 1900s and has been owned and operated by Jerold Slaughter since 1960.  We are proud of our continuity and family atmosphere, which we use to serve you with more compassion and expertise than any other pharmacy.

We are here to help you, no matter what your needs.  From our state-of-the-art compounding pharmacy to our long-term care department, Mulberry Pharmacy is your one source for health care information – and so much more!

Conveniently located on South Florida Ave. (SR 37S) and 1/2 mile from SR60 in Central Florida, we’re easy to find and get to.  In fact, we’re just a 40-minute ride from both Tampa or Orlando.  And we’re open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, ready to fill or make your prescriptions!

Unlike some other pharmacies you may have visited or worked with, we aren’t rigid and don’t hide behind technology.  In fact, almost any time you call you can get our lead pharmacists on the phone.  And if they’re not immediately available you can bet on a timely return phone call!

Our pharmacists

Jerold Slaughter received his degree in Pharmacy from the University of Florida in 1957 and, after completing his military service, purchased Mulberry Pharmacy in 1960.  With an emphasis on increasing the number and type of services we offer – including gifts and home decorations – Mr. Slaughter strives to make Mulberry Pharmacy the premiere independent drugstore in central Florida.

And now we have a new member of our pharmacy team!  Recently our customers have seen a new face behind the prescription counter: Thomas Slaughter.  Dr. Slaughter is a Polk County native who graduated from Bartow High School in 1985.  With undergraduate degrees in both Education and Biology, Dr. Slaughter taught high school science for five years and worked in a Neuroscience laboratory, focusing on Alzheimer's and Parkenson's diseases.  His attention then turned to pharmacy, and in 2001 he graduated Magna Cum Laud with a doctorate of Pharmacy from Mercer University.

Dr. Slaughter operates our compounding department, where prescriptions are custom-made on a patient-by-patient basis.  He oversees custom medications including veterinarian prescriptions for large, small, and exotic animals; sterile solutions for injection and ophthalmic uses; bio-identical hormone replacement; pediatric dosage forms; hospice and pain management; and many other unique medications.  He lives in Lakeland with his wife and three sons.

Mulberry Pharmacy: Your pharmaceutical problem solvers

With over 70 years of pharmacy experience on staff we are certain to have the prescriptions you need and answers to your healthcare questions.

We belong to the Professional Compounders of America and have access to 17 additional doctorates of pharmacy and four Ph.D. chemists with multiple specialties.  What does this mean for you?  That we make any and all compounded prescriptions and have the knowledge to do it perfectly.

We know you’re in a hurry but don’t want to sacrifice price, convenience, or friendliness for speed.  That’s why our normal turnaround time on compounds is 24 hours or less, and the wait time for most non-compounded medications is just 15 minutes!  And our pricing is competitive.  In fact, we match prices with most local compounding pharmacies.

Also, we do not charge shipping on non-refrigerated, non-hazardous, non-controlled compounds sent by USPS within the continental United States.  And we give you a paper claim for each prescription, making it that much easier to get reimbursed by your insurance company!
